Bible

Premise
In the mountain valley of Amahara, a dragon corrupted by centuries of human grief steals souls instead of flesh, leaving the living hollow with forgotten selves. When eighteen-year-old Mira discovers she carries a fragment of the dragon’s original spirit, she and her estranged father Daichi must climb a memory-warped mountain, rescue the stolen souls, and remind the fallen guardian who he once was.
Setting
Amahara is a secluded mountain valley of shrine roofs, cedar forests, lantern streets, blacksmith courtyards, red spirit gates, memory rivers, and blossom-lit terraces beneath moonlit peaks. The village lives by ritual, oral warning, and seasonal festivals, especially the Festival of Returning Light, while the upper mountain is a corrupted spirit landscape of upside-down trees, shifting paths, whispering woods, sacred falls, hidden caverns, and ancient shrines sealing the boundary between human memory and the spirit world.
History
Long before Amahara became a village, Kurohane was the Guardian of the Valley, a luminous dragon who protected the boundary between humans and spirits. For centuries humans and spirits lived in balance, but as the valley grew, sacred forests were cut, shrines were broken, mines were driven into the mountain, and wars stained the land. Kurohane absorbed the grief, fear, and memory of human suffering until his own spirit fractured. Forgetting his purpose, he began stealing souls, believing memory itself might restore what he had lost. Twelve years before the story begins, Aya entered the mountain to stop a coming catastrophe and became the final seal around Kurohane’s heart, while Daichi returned carrying only her sword and a life of guilt.
Factions
Villagers of Amahara: humble, traditional, close-knit families who preserve memory through ritual, lantern festivals, offerings, and oral law. Forgotten Warriors: the valley’s former protectors, now mostly scattered or gone, remembered through heirloom blades, crests, and martial disciplines. Spirit Realm Entities: ambiguous beings tied to forests, rivers, shrines, and memory crossings, neither wholly benevolent nor cruel. Kurohane and the Stolen Souls: the corrupted guardian dragon whose glowing scales hold taken memories and trapped souls, creating a moving force of spiritual imbalance.
Conflict
Kurohane has awakened too soon and descends on Amahara during the Festival of Returning Light, stealing hundreds of souls and revealing that Mira carries a fragment of his uncorrupted spirit. Mira wants truth, freedom, and the return of those taken; Daichi wants above all to keep her alive, even if it means reliving the night he failed Aya. Their climb into the corrupted mountain becomes a battle against soul-loss, illusion, inherited grief, and a centuries-old wound in the bond between humans and the spirit world.
Rules
Souls and memory are intertwined: to lose one’s soul is not immediate death but a living erasure of identity, love, and selfhood. Kurohane steals through Soulmist, a silver-violet vapor that strips memory and leaves hollow survivors behind. Some individuals with spiritual resonance can resist, sense, or soothe soul disturbances; Mira is uniquely protected because she carries a fragment of Kurohane’s original spirit. Memory-rich places echo with visions, voices, and emotional residue. Sacred swords, vows, offerings, and acts of truthful remembrance can cut through or calm corrupted spirit forces. Corruption distorts landscape and perception, but compassion, trust, and remembered truth are stronger than domination.

Residents

Mira

Defiant daughter · Heroine

Eighteen, stubborn, and the only person still willing to walk the mountain to remind Kurohane who he was. She treats memory as a duty, not a gift.

Kurohane

Fallen guardian · Fallen guardian; redeemed dragon

Once the luminous Guardian of the Valley. Centuries of absorbed grief fractured his purpose. He steals memories now, believing emptiness is mercy.

Aya

Mother; living seal · Mother; guardian

Mira's mother. Compassionate, spiritually gifted, she chose to remain as the seal on Kurohane's heart so the village could keep one more dawn.

Daichi

Estranged father · Father; protector

A protector who left the valley rather than watch another soul go hollow. He returns armed with guilt and a vow he is not sure he can keep.

Places

Shrine Gate at Dusk

You stand at the mountain shrine gate as lanterns are lit. Violet spirit-flame already moves in the trees. A defiant daughter waits with a wrapped blade, asking you to walk with her to remind a fallen guardian who he was. Begin with one simple step through the gate.

Memory-Mist Valley Path

You walk a valley path where mist steals names from the stones. Footprints fill in behind you. A weathered haori hangs on a post as if its owner forgot they wore it. Begin by taking the path, touching the haori, or calling into the mist.

Fallen Guardian Hall

You enter the hall where the guardian sleeps among unlit braziers. Cords and floral crests hang unused. One brazier still holds a weak violet flame. Begin by waking the hall with a single action: open the doors wider, feed the flame, or speak a name.
