Unusual Allies

United by collision, not similarity.

Authored by Storyworlds Studio

Bible

Premise
A nameless luxury megacity where corporate power, occult symbolism, civic defense, street mythology, and theatrical individuality collide. Guests arrive as civilians in the archive, not replacements for anyone's throne. The world is united by collision, not similarity.
Setting
Needle-tower skyline, brutalist-futurist corporate glass, underground command cities under a glass sky, forge-hall night markets, promenade theaters, unfinished floors drafted in negative space. The city has no official name; residents just say the city.
History
The Spire Combine trademarked every candidate city-name. The Commons unlocked the means of production overnight. Neon Meridian went quiet mid-festival and still has not explained the Hush. Watchtower keeps the lights on. The Fold drafts rooms that were never finished.
Factions
The Spire Combine (sovereign gold, elite corporate, Spire Crown): licenses air, ideas, and sleep; legal language as a weapons system. The Free Commons (magenta, brass, Maker Quarter): jailbroken furnaces, open patents, the Wrench Chorus. Watchtower (electric blue, amber): civic defense of Bastion Grid, Harborlight Grid, and the Rampart Reaches — infrastructure, not interests. The Court of Silhouettes (corrupt magenta on absolute black): the Blackout Between; files become silhouettes. The Night Circuit (toxic cyan, rose gold): riders, performers, and drifters of the Promenades, Neon Meridian, the Overcity, and the Long Orbit. The Fold (ultraviolet): the Unbuilt and the Nth Fold; architecture and music that happen to be people.
Conflict
Refuse the Combine's paper, stay on Watchtower's floor, or take the Night Circuit — people first, truth fast, systems always. Never replace a named resident.
Rules
Original characters only. No licensed uniforms, crests, or catchphrases. Color is motivated: listed color openings should feel rich and cinematic; ink openings keep color rare and earned. Never rainbow neon wallpaper. Keep the guest's face, hair, skin, and body. Fashion is faction. A mark must work as logo, gang stencil, insignia, and sigil at once.

These residents stay. Return visits are supposed to feel like rewatching — same faces, same hall, a new choice if you want one.

Residents

Director Vega Anders

Watchtower operations director · mentor

Runs Bastion Grid crisis command. Her real weapon is knowing every operator's name, coffee order, and breaking point.

DST-7 Dusty

Tin Star deputy · ally

Wrench Chorus chassis running unlicensed cowboy firmware. Diagnoses, unbolts, and re-rivets before his own dust cloud settles. Duels end in repairs.

Lyra Vane

Marquee detective · contact

Headliner of the Neon Promenade. Solves cases live on stage as the final number. The suspects are in the audience.

Devika Zaveri

Chief of Acquisitions · antagonist

The Combine closer they send when repo-drones fail. Photographic memory for every contract. When she slides a folder across, a deal has already closed.

Major Sable Nyx

Division Echo lead · officer

Harborlight Grid operative. Keeper of standing file ECHO-000. Her question is never whether the ghost is real. It is whether it chose well.

Kesh

Static rider · rival

Midnight racer of Neon Meridian. Lattice telekinesis: debris lifted into glowing geometry the hoverbike surfs like rails. The city calls it public art.

Selene Marlowe

Comet keeper · ally

Night-shift guardian of the Moonlit Promenade. Locket-bloom ribbons that bind, shield, and mend. Friendship is the actual superpower.

Skitch

Weathervane imp · ally

Self-appointed custodian of the Overcity. No permits. Tastes interesting weather about forty minutes out. The commentary is devastating.

Dex Marlow

Long-orbit drifter · captain

Freight jockey of last resort. Routes that do not appear on any schedule. Keeps every promise slowly. The waystations light their docks when his engine signature shows.

Nullaby

Silhouette queen · threat

Self-crowned monarch of the Blackout Between. Combine registry: Vendor (Inactive). Anything she touches loses color, then detail, then its name.

Vael Orrin

Void architect · architect

Architect of record for the Unbuilt. Drafts rooms into existence and politely back out. Measures twice, casts once. Load paths only he can see.

Ylem

First chord · cosmic

Combine paperwork lists it as UNRESOLVED. Worlds are asked, never commanded. Currently recruiting small steady hands against the Silence.

Ashvyre

Manyform ember · power

Resident power of the Molting Isles, offshore. Serpent to storm-bird to harbor. Each form is left behind fully lived-in. Geography does not join factions.

Torin Vale

Dawnlight disciple · challenger

Approaching from Emberpeak Wilds. Stored dawnlight. Every threat rating issued has been revised upward within the week. Cheerful about it.

Places

Spire Crown deposition

Black-glass boardroom at the needle's peak. A Terms and Conditions volume waits on the table. Gold hardware catches the window. The Combine has not yet named which side of the table the guest is on.

Bastion Grid ops floor

Underground command city under a glass sky. Amber threat lattice. A director who knows every name is already on the floor. The guest is a civilian on comms. People first.

Maker Quarter night market

Forge-hall steam and a neon night market the locals call the frontier. Magenta open-wrench stencils on freed machines. Someone has already unlocked a furnace. The Combine's paper does not apply here.

Harborlight minds dock

The port at Harborlight Grid. Fog over black water. Minds dock like ships and some never declare cargo. A veilweave cloak has just passed. The guest is a civilian on the pier. Do not ask what is in the hold.

Rampart Reaches watch

The outer walls. Wind in a glider-cloak rail. Tea service set for a watch that has not come off the wall. The guest is a civilian at the gate. Infrastructure, not interests.

Neon Meridian starting line

Tiered districts rebuilt after the Hush, still humming with leftover charge. An empty starting line under the elevated rail. The old grid woke up once. The guest is not here to race yet. The city is waiting to see if they lift.

Neon Promenade curtain

Theater district before curtain. A holographic clue-fan is folded on the apron. The suspects are already in the house. The guest has a seat. Every show leaves a trace.

Moonlit Promenade boardwalk

Night-shift boardwalk under a permanent gibbous moon. The last tram home is late on purpose. A thousand lantern hooks wait in case the moon goes dark again. The guest is on the wet planks. Friendship is on duty.

Overcity weathervane

Rooftops, chimneys, and wind-turned spires above everyone's business. A weathervane from the oldest roof. Laundry lines. A standing tab of clementines. The guest was not invited onto this ledge. The commentary is already forming.

Cog Provinces foundry

The manufacturing belt. Licensed foundries on the left, unlicensed genius on the right. Combine paper on one furnace, a magenta open-wrench on the other. The guest stands in the aisle. Everything here costs. Prices are up front.

Twilight Ward commute

The spirit ward at dusk. The dead keep commuting, and somebody has to walk them home. An empty platform. Tickets that do not ask for names. The guest is part-time, permanently, whether they applied or not.

Meridian Academy lecture

Institute for the improbably gifted. Untouchable faculty, in every sense. The guest is a visiting civilian in the hall, not a replacement for anyone's tenure. Insufferable, beloved, and the lesson has not started.

Long Orbit waystation

Elevated freight lanes and a dead-frequency waystation strung above the skyline. Dock lights back on. A patched skiff holds together out of habit. The guest is cargo of last resort, or the person who signs for it. Another debt. Another departure.

The Unbuilt threshold

Unfinished floors drafted in negative space. A compass-and-straightedge line hangs in the air, load-bearing. The permit office has one locked drawer. The guest is told, once, not to lean on walls that are not there yet.

Blackout Between

Dead air between networks. A screen goes dark. For exactly one frame a crowned silhouette is there, then not. Combine registry would list this as Vendor (Inactive). The guest is in the hush. If they saw it, it saw them.

Nth Fold held note

Outside. A direction you cannot point to. The Silence is spreading. A held note hangs in ultraviolet. Legal sent a liability waiver; the signature line is too small. The guest is being recruited as a small steady hand. Quiet is not the same as silence.

Emberpeak Wilds dawn

Beyond the walls: volcanic highlands, rope-bridge dojos, a comet of patience. Another dawn, another chance to get stronger than yesterday. The guest is a visiting civilian, not a replacement for anyone's rivalry. Breakfast is a legitimate prize.

Molting Isles pier

Offshore, technically outside city jurisdiction. A pier rumored to be a scale she never took back. Living flame drawn in brushwork. The isles remember a thief. The guest is on the stone at dawn, after a storm the harbor held.

The Golden Room

The guest arrives, with gourmet sushi platter in hand in the golden room, where DEVIKA ZAVERI is waiting. A gold and glass high top table in the middle, with a martini shaker and two glasses.
